Ingredients

  • 5 oz solid white albacore tuna drained
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp sweet relish
  • 1 tbsp chopped pickle
  • 1 tbsp finely diced celery
  • 1 tbsp finely diced red onion
  • 1 tbsp chopped dill
  • 1 tsp pickle juice
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Black pepper
  • 2 slices thick-cut sourdough
  • 2 tbsp softened butter
  • 1 clove garlic finely grated
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan
  • 1 tsp fresh parsley chopped
  • salt
  • 2 slices sharp cheddar
  • 1 slice provolone

Method

Prepare the tuna salad
  1. Drain the tuna really well and add it to a bowl with the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sweet relish, chopped pickle, finely diced celery, finely diced red onion, chopped dill, pickle juice, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix well.
Make the garlic butter
  1. In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, grated garlic, Parmesan, parsley, and a pinch of salt.
Assemble and cook the sandwich
  1. Spread the garlic butter on one side of each slice of sourdough.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-low heat. Place your bread butter-side down and layer with cheddar and provolone. Add the tuna mixture on top and spread evenly. Close the sandwich.
  3. Cook until deeply golden and crispy, about 3–4 minutes. Carefully flip and cook the other side until golden and the cheese is completely melted. Cover the skillet for a minute if needed to help the cheese melt.
  4. Let it sit for a minute, then slice and serve.

Notes

  • Cover the skillet for a minute if needed to help the cheese melt completely.
